Inside the Journey to Streamlined ADAS Documentation Without Compromising Quality
Fix Auto Highlands Ranch transformed its ADAS documentation process by adopting Revv’s platform, streamlining operations while upholding network-level quality and safety standards.
As part of the Fix Auto network, Fix Auto Highlands Ranch exemplifies the balance between independent ownership and network-backed quality standards. While maintaining local control, they leverage Fix Auto's commitment to consistent, quality repairs, particularly in the continually growing field of ADAS repair and calibration.
"My grandfather has owned a body shop in the past. My uncles have owned body shops in the past. My dad had kind of opened his up initially at this location," explains Dan Stander, owner of Fix Auto Highlands Ranch.
This multi-generational experience taught him early lessons about what it takes to succeed: "I joke sometimes saying ‘we were maybe just too stupid to stop’. The whole lot of us are hard workers and kind of, well kept it going by working a lot."
This hard work has translated into their ADAS business as well.
The team has been working with ADAS features for about 2 to 3 years. Before implementing Revv, the team struggled with documentation and pricing management. "I was using a custom Excel invoice and I would always have off to the side some of my targeted charges for different things, whether it would be Subarus, Hondas, this or that," Dan recalls.
"Honestly, it was kind of growing out of control. And then there was no way for me to really bundle all those invoices and get data."
This caused more and more trouble as Dan and the Fix Auto team wanted to keep their high standards while dealing with insurance requirements. "There were lots and lots of questions back then from insurance companies," Dan remembers. "We’d always hear things like 'do you really need to do all that?' I'm responding constantly saying, 'well, we do to make that a good safe repair.'"
Trying to get a straight answer was equally frustrating. “They have their expert teams that say ‘we don't need to follow that data’.” Dan explained. "So I’ll ask who to look to and they’ll say, 'well, we follow I-CAR'. And what does I-CAR say? I-CAR goes back to the same data…"
To ensure nothing was missed, the team found themselves running multiple checks on every vehicle. "We try to run typically three reports on every car which is kind of rough," Dan notes. "Because I want to verify what's on that car. And I want to make sure we're doing the right thing."
After using ALLDATA as well as ADAS Think, Dan and his team discovered Revv's comprehensive platform. "When I heard about Revv through some online research and then trying to understand what you had to offer,” Dan said. “There were so many things that it did, I almost didn't want to believe that Revv could actually do all that stuff."
The transition wasn't immediate. "I know initially, it was a little hard in my opinion to get going on and set up," Dan shares. "I call it chasing rabbits. Sometimes we want to stop chasing our old rabbits... doing the same thing over and over."
Due to these early frustrations in verifying the data, Fix Auto Highlands Ranch maintains their steady commitment to thorough verification. "One of my injured chromosomes is, I don't always trust things up front," Dan admits. "I need to run two and make sure. And I'm like, “huh! It's all working and it's catching and it's a little bit easier."
The team still uses multiple systems as well as visual inspections to ensure nothing gets missed. "I definitely trust Revv the most, but time and again, we'll use ALLDATA or ADAS Think to double check.” Dan said
Their thorough approach to implementation reflected Fix Auto's commitment to quality:
The impact has been significant and as of this writing, Dan was checking the box on invoice #132. “It was really cool to be able to do this invoice in probably like…15 minutes or so," Dan noted. The platform has enabled them to maintain their high standards while improving efficiency.
Other improvements Dan and his team have enjoyed from using Revv include:
"There's so much great data in here that I could never get out of Excel, could never get out of any of the other platforms," Dan explains. "I know CCC and insurance companies track us on this data, but I've never seen anything really published the way Revv handles it."
Most importantly, the system supports their commitment to safety, with Dan stating that his team is exceptional at what they do but they don’t know everything. "We're not smart enough to be the engineers of these vehicles. We've not crash tested them. We've not done everything that all the manufacturers have done. So, we're just trying to follow the data."
With Revv, they’ve got exactly what they were hoping for.
While embracing new technology, Fix Auto Highlands Ranch maintains its focus on quality and safety.
"I really want to do my best to make sure we're doing a good job for the customer," Dan emphasizes.
"I do want to hopefully make this a profit center, and it is, but number one for me is doing a safe repair for the consumer and following actual engineering data."
